TOPIC: Gaining Knowledge of the Bible
7:30 PM EACH MONDAY & WEDNESDAY IN NOVEMBER
Hampton Inn on McKnight Rd &
Comfort Inn Rodi Rd, Penn Hills
What will be discussed?
Week 1"November 6th & 8th.
“Is Knowledge of the Bible Necessary?â€
In this seminar Pastor Bruinsma will discuss that true faith has objective content. It is not enough for a Christian simply to say that he/she believes in God, Jesus Christ, and salvation from sin. The Christian must be sure that the God and Christ whom he/she serves is the God and Christ of the Bible and not a “made-up†God and Savior that men may teach.
Also, in this connection Pastor Bruinsma will teach that the Christian faith is Bible knowledge and not mere opinion based on feeling. This idea of faith stands contrary to the post-modernism of many in the church, which claims that it does not matter what one believes, just so long as he believes in something.
Week2"November 13th & 15th
“Acquiring Bible-Knowledge in the Churchâ€
In this seminar the question will be asked: what can the church do to teach the Bible? The first answer to this question is obvious: the church must preach good sound, biblical sermons. Sermons must explain the Bible to members, and not present the good advice of the minister. But we realize there are other ways of teaching the Word of God too. The church should have Bible studies for adults and young people. There ought also to be some kind of system of instruction given to children. How can a church become involved in all of these?
Week 3"November 20th & 22nd
“Acquiring Bible-Knowledge in the Home.â€
This seminar is of a practical nature. We live in a busy society! Work and recreation often keep families from sitting down and reading and praying together. Christians realize how important it is to spend time studying the Word of God together in the home, but a hectic life often seems to frustrate their desires. What can parents and children do to overcome this problem? What can be done in the home to learn more of the Scriptures?
Week 4"November 27th & 29th
“The Fruit of Bible- Knowledge.â€
We live in a society and a world that openly walks in disobedience to God and His commandments. The pressure is on to walk with them in their sin. This seminar will consider how we can equip ourselves with knowledge in God’s Word in order to fight the faith of faith, and to walk a life of holiness before God. It is obvious from Jesus' own example that the Word of God is necessary to ward off the attacks of Satan. Christ used the Bible to resist the 3 temptations of the devil in the wilderness. In Ephesians 6 we also learn that a part of our spiritual armor must be the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God.
All seminars will have the same format.
